How the CSM route shapes IB maths

The route into the DP
CSM combines an Ontario-influenced curriculum with the Diploma Programme, and its DP authorisation is recent. That last point matters more than it might seem.
What a new DP cohort means in practice
In an established programme, the year groups above have already worked out which topics are hard, which teachers set which style of test, and which past papers are worth doing. An early cohort has none of that accumulated knowledge, and students feel the absence of it most in AA HL, where knowing what is coming is half the preparation.

Course choice and what to watch

Where outside help earns its place
This is the situation where a tutor who has already been through the Diploma is most useful — not for the content, which the school teaches, but for the shape of the two years: when the IA actually needs to be underway, how much past-paper work is enough, what the exam expects that the classroom does not make obvious.
Smaller cohorts, both ways
A small DP cohort usually means more teacher attention, which is genuinely good. It also means fewer classmates to compare notes with and a thinner pool of shared revision material, which is where one-to-one work fills the gap.

Where we usually start

Mapping the two years in the first session
With a young programme, the single most useful early output is a realistic map: when the IA has to be underway, which HL topics take longest, when past papers start, and what each term should feel like. Students in established cohorts absorb this from the years above; here it has to be made explicit.
Using past papers earlier than feels natural
Because there is less inherited revision material, we introduce past-paper work sooner than usual — not to test, but to show what the exam actually asks compared with classroom questions. That calibration is the thing a new cohort is missing most.

Do you tutor students from Canadian School of Milan?

Yes. Lessons are online, so I work with students at Canadian School of Milan and other international schools across Europe. I am not affiliated with the school — this is independent one-to-one tutoring arranged directly with families.
Which maths courses do you cover?

IB Mathematics Analysis & Approaches and Applications & Interpretation, at Standard and Higher Level, plus IB Physics, the Internal Assessment in both subjects, SAT Math and Bocconi admissions preparation.
Can lessons be in Italian?

Yes. I am fluent in English, Italian and Croatian, and a lesson can run in any of the three or move between them. For students examined in English but more comfortable reasoning in Italian, that flexibility is usually the fastest route to understanding.
The Diploma Programme is new at the school — does that matter?

It matters less for teaching quality than for accumulated knowledge. An early cohort has no year groups above it to inherit revision material, topic warnings or a sense of pacing from. That is precisely the gap someone who has been through the Diploma can fill, and it is why a two-year plan is more valuable here than extra content lessons.
