Getting started
Before your first session.
Is there a free trial or intro session?
There is a free 20-minute call first, to understand the student's situation and see if we're a good fit. No commitment. After that, every service begins with a paid 2-week start: a start test, 4 lessons and 4 marked worksheets, then a call with you. It counts towards the fee, and if you stop after it, you pay nothing more.
What platform do you use for online lessons?
Lessons are conducted via Google Meet. I use a shared digital whiteboard for working through problems in real time, and all session notes are shared afterwards.
What subjects can you tutor?
I tutor IB Mathematics AA and AI (at both SL and HL), IB Physics (SL and HL), SAT Math, Bocconi university admissions test preparation, and first-year university-level mathematics. If you're unsure whether your subject is covered, just ask. I'm happy to discuss it in the intro call.
How do I get started?
Simply send an email to alex@intellixtutoring.com or message via WhatsApp. I'll reply within 24 hours to arrange a free 20-minute intro call where we can discuss the student's needs and next steps.
Sessions & scheduling
How the lessons work.
How often should we meet for best results?
Twice a week. Every block is built on that rhythm: it keeps momentum, leaves time to practise between lessons, and topics get reinforced before they fade. Before a mock, lessons can be moved within the block, up to four a week.
What if we need to reschedule a session?
Life happens. Rescheduling is free with at least 24 hours' notice, and I'll do my best to find another slot in the same week. With less notice, the lesson counts as used. If I have to cancel a lesson, it is always made up.
How long are the sessions?
Every lesson is 60 minutes, one to one. Before a mock or an exam, we bring lessons closer together rather than make them longer: up to four a week, within the block.
Do you offer support between sessions?
Yes, in every block. Students, and parents too, can send short questions over WhatsApp between lessons, and I answer within one working day: a clarification on a concept, or a quick check on whether an approach is right. It isn't unlimited homework help, but it means students don't get stuck between lessons.
Curriculum & progress
What to expect.
Do you follow the current IB syllabus?
Yes. I stay up to date with the current IB Mathematics syllabus for both Analysis & Approaches (AA) and Applications & Interpretation (AI), at both SL and HL. Lessons are always aligned with what the student is currently studying in school.
Can you help with the IB Internal Assessment?
Yes. I can support students with their Mathematics or Physics IA, from initial topic selection and framing a strong research question, through to checking the mathematical content and ensuring the exploration meets the IB criteria. In an IB semester, IA coaching is included, with up to 2 drafts read each semester. Without IB lessons, the IA Coach on its own is 6 lessons and 2 drafts read.
Is online tutoring effective for IB Physics HL?
Yes, in my experience. Most of Physics HL is diagrams, derivations and data, and all three work well on a shared whiteboard. The student sees every step as it is written and keeps the notes afterwards. Lab work stays at school. For the IA, I give feedback on the research question, the method and the analysis.
How far in advance should we start Bocconi preparation?
Start six weeks to three months before the test date. Maths is 24 of the 50 questions, at about 90 seconds each, and that speed takes weeks of timed practice to build. For the Early Session in September, start in the summer. For the Winter Session, start in the autumn. More in the Bocconi test guide.
How do you track student progress?
Every block starts and ends with the same kind of test, marked like the real exam, so you can see the change. In between, you get a written report every 4 weeks: what improved, what still needs work, and the plan. We also talk for 20 minutes after the first 2 weeks and at the end of the block, and you can message me at any time.
Can lessons be conducted in Croatian or Italian?
Absolutely. I'm fluent in English, Croatian and Italian. For students who are more comfortable working through problems in their first language, we can conduct the entire lesson in Croatian or Italian, whichever helps them learn best.
What if my child isn't improving?
If a student isn't progressing as expected, I take that seriously and adjust the approach, whether that means slowing down on a topic, changing how we explain something, or refocusing the plan entirely. I'd rather have an honest conversation about what's working than continue with something that isn't. Parents are always kept informed.
What kind of results do students typically see?
On average, students improve by 2 IB grade points and SAT students gain 110 points on the Math section. 80% hit their target grade or above. Based on 20+ students who completed a full lesson package. Individual results vary. They depend on the starting point, the work done between sessions and the time left before the exams, which is why I'm honest about expectations from the very first call.
How much does tutoring cost?
Every service has one fixed fee, agreed before you start, and nothing is charged by the hour. IB Maths or Physics runs one semester at a time, with 2 lessons every school week, and a second subject costs less. SAT Math runs for 8 weeks and the Bocconi test for 10 weeks. Every service begins with a paid 2-week start, which counts towards the fee. I share the fees on the free intro call.
Do you tutor students in Milan or elsewhere in Italy?
Yes. All lessons are online, so location is not a constraint. I work with students at international schools across Europe, including in Italy. Sessions run on Google Meet with a shared whiteboard and can be taught entirely in Italian if that is the language your child thinks in. There are no in-person lessons.
Do you tutor students outside Italy?
Yes. Lessons are online, so students join from anywhere. Mine come from schools in Italy and the Netherlands. I work on Central European Time. We pick a fixed weekly slot that fits the school day and your time zone, and we agree it on the free intro call.
Which languages do you tutor in?
English, Italian and Croatian, all to a fluent standard. A lesson can run entirely in any of the three, and in practice students often mix, following the explanation in Italian while keeping the mathematical terminology in English, because that is the language their exam is written in. Whatever helps the concept land is the right choice.
How is this different from Preply or Superprof?
Those are marketplaces: you book an hour from whoever is available, and continuity is yours to manage. This is one tutor rather than a roster. Every student gets a custom worksheet after each lesson which I mark before the next one, so progress carries between sessions instead of restarting each time. I also turn down students I am not the right fit for, which a marketplace has no reason to do.
